Port Stephens Council
West Ward Candidate
I'm proud to announce that I am running alongside Mayoral candidate Paul Le Mottee at the 2024 Local Government Elections.
My Story
I'm Josh Moxey, a dedicated architectural professional and community advocate in Port Stephens. My family has been deeply rooted in this area for generations, and I'm proud to be part of that ongoing legacy.
Holding a Bachelor of Design and a Master of Architecture (with Distinction) from the University of Newcastle, I was honoured with the prestigious New Colombo Plan scholarship from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in 2018, sponsored by CIFAL Australia. This scholarship enabled me to undertake training with the United Nations Institute of Training and Research in Korea, where I focused on critical areas in the built environment, including Urban Disaster Risk Reduction and Green Infrastructure, contributing valuable insights into global challenges.
Professionally, I am currently an Architectural Graduate at the renowned Australian architecture firm ARCH (formerly dwp Suters) and am in the process of my architectural registration. I am also a member of the Australian Institute of Architects and the International Association for Sports and Leisure Facilities.
As a lifelong resident of Port Stephens, I have a profound connection to the area, having lived in Medowie and Raymond Terrace. My leadership journey began in 2006 when I served as School Captain at Irrawang High School. I have also held leadership positions at the University of Newcastle, including President of the Architecture Graduation Committee and Postgraduate Senate. Beyond my architectural pursuits, I am an accomplished cricketer who has played representative cricket for many years and hold a current world record. My 15 years of dedicated service to the Port Stephens Cricket Club have earned me a life membership, reflecting my commitment to my club and local associations. Since 2012, I have been actively involved with the West Ward Sports Council and currently serve as Secretary on the Newcastle District Cricket Association board.
I value my time with family as much as my professional and community roles. I share my life with my partner, Belinda, and our two sons, Ezekiel and Theodore, who are central to my heart and life.
My blend of professional expertise, community engagement, and deep-rooted local connections makes me not only a prominent figure in Port Stephens but also a dedicated advocate for the region and its community spirit.
Team Le Mottee
Paul Le Mottee is a successful businessman, running a Surveying, Town Planning, and Civil Engineering business in Raymond Terrace. He’s also a Justice of the Peace, the Immediate Past President of the Hunter Chapter of the Housing Industry Association (HIA), and serves on the board of the Association of Australian Certifiers. As the saying goes, "if you want something done, give it to a busy person." Paul is also an avid sports lover, with interests in skiing, camping, scuba diving, and cricket.
My relationship with Paul goes back to when I was still in nappies at the Port Stephens Cricket Club. I was fortunate to be influenced by great individuals like Paul, who dedicated their time to roles such as President and Secretary at our club, and went on to serve on the Maitland District Cricket Association board—a path I have followed as well. Paul has also contributed to the Seaham PS community as a past P&C president and as a former President of the Williams River Community Preschools.
After previously representing the West Ward for 9 years, including a period as Deputy Mayor, it’s no surprise that he again wants to represent his community on the council.
Similarly, it’s no surprise that I’m following in his footsteps.
Becoming the West Ward's first popularly elected Mayor of Port Stephens might well be Paul’s greatest achievement, and I’m proud and excited to support him in this endeavor!
The third candidate on our ticket is Huxley Rowe. Huxley is also a former Irrawang High School captain and was awarded the Mayoral Academic Scholarship in 2023, which supports his studies at the University of New England, where he is pursuing a Bachelor of Nursing. Hux also works part-time as a disability support worker while studying and has a strong passion for the health industry, especially for youth. Additionally, he has represented NSW in Lawn Bowls at Under Age competitions.
Our Four Point Plan
1. Keep Party Politics Out of Local Government
We’re committed to making decisions based on what’s best for Port Stephens, free from party politics. Our focus will be on serving our community, not political agendas.
2. Oppose Labor's proposed Offshore Wind Farm
We oppose the offshore wind farm due to its potential negative impact on our marine ecosystem as well as our local fishing industry. We’ll advocate for energy solutions that protect our local businesses and environment.
3. Reprioritise Council Spending
Our priority is to optimise council spending, ensuring that Port Stephens exceeds our communities expectation around key council areas such as road maintenance. We aim to work with council to allocate resources efficiently to meet community needs.
4. Address the Housing Shortage, Sustainably
We plan to tackle the housing shortage in Port Stephens by promoting sustainable development. Our goal is to increase housing availability while preserving our community’s natural environment.
